Our Lady of Good Success Picture

This is the most appealing picture of Our Lady Of Good Success to date, photo taken by Dr Horvat.

The embellishing of gems and gold glitter creates a most stunning effect. A replica of this image hangs in the Conceptionist Convent of the Conceptionist Sisters, Quito Ecuador, where Our Lady appeared to Sister Mariana 400 years ago.

Our Lady of the Southern Cross

The original “Our Lady of the Southern Cross'' featuring the Virgin Mary cradling the infant Christ, now hangs permanently in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Sydney. The artists aim was to capture the intimate relationship between Mary and her son. “She is totally focused upon Him and holds Him affectionately to herself; at the same time she holds Him so as to face us, the viewers, as if presenting or giving Him to us. He is the only one making eye contact with us. In His gaze I attempted to suggest not only the innocence of a baby but also the wisdom of ages, present in the One who would become Our Saviour.'' - Paul Newton.

The painting features symbols of Australia, such as a wattle garland on Mary's head, the Southern Cross in the night sky, a background landscape with gum trees and a broad meandering river, inspired by the paintings of Arthur Streeton and Tom Roberts. The artist was also asked to include the Broome pearl, which Mary wears as an earring. The pearl is a traditional Christian symbol and he based this on the Parable of the Pearl or the Pearl of Great Price. This parable told by Jesus in explaining the value of the Kingdom of Heaven, according to Matthew 13:45-46. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
